Zion Williamson had a great game against the Los Angeles Clippers, but missed the third quarter with a leg injury. While Pelicans officials are calling it a "right leg contusion," the extent of the injury remains uncertain. What's even more uncertain is that Zion's departure from the game doesn't appear to be due to any particular play.
This is especially concerning for the Pelicans, who were already facing a potential blowout down 17 points. While Zion played 19 minutes and contributed 12 points, six rebounds, and various other defensive performances, his absence further limited the Pelicans' chances of a comeback.
Adding to Zion's injury problems is the fact that this isn't the first time he's missed time this season. He has missed seven games for a variety of reasons including injury management, personal reasons and illness. The Pelicans have gone 3-3 during his absence, but his presence has been crucial to the Pelicans' long-term success.
Although the Pelicans lost 111-95 to the Clippers, Zion's injury remains in the spotlight. Coach Willie Green and the team will likely seek further evaluation to determine the severity of the injury and possible recovery time.
